Egg Carton Tulips

Posted by: Jimmy In: Kid Crafts

Cut the egg carton into separate cups, leaving some of the middle “pop-up” sections. Cut the main cups into the pointed shape of the tulip petals. With the point of the scissors or a sharp pencil, poke a hole in the bottom of each cup. Paint and decorate each cup however you like.

Cut the little center “pop-up” sections between the egg cups into small pointed shapes that will go beneath the tulip cups. Poke a hole in the center of each and paint green.

When the pieces are dry, poke a piece of green chenille through the holes. Tie a loop on the end in the cup so it can’t pull back out, and add a dab of glue between the two sections. Shape the chenille into leaf shapes and leave a few inches at the bottom for the stem.

You can stick the stems of several flowers into some clay or floral foam in the bottom of a pot. Or just tie together and wrap with pretty paper and a ribbon to give to mom!

Pop Bottle Snowman

Posted by: Jimmy In: Holiday Crafts

Sand the surface of the bottle, spray can lid and tub lid. This will allow the acrylic paint to adhere to the surface.

Paint the spray can lid and tub lid black. Paint the bottle white. Allow to dry.

Cover the top and sides of the spray can lid and the top of the tub lid with black felt. Since you’ve painted them black, you don’t need to be too precise with the felt. Center, and glue the spray can lid to the tub lid. You now have your snowman’s hat. When the glue has dried, turn the hat over and cut a small hole in the bottom with an exacto knife. Make the hole a little smaller than the circumference of the top of the hat.

Fill the bottle about halfway with pebbles, sand or dirt. This will help keep your snowman from falling over.

Cut a strip of red felt about 2 feet long and 1″ – 1 1/2″ wide. (If your felt came in 12″ squares, just cut two strips and glue the ends together. Tie this around the bottle, about 3-4″ down from the top. Secure with a dab of glue.

Make earmuffs using 3 pipe cleaners. Two of them will be coiled to make the actual “muffs”. The third will be the band attaching them. (Attach the pipe cleaners by twisting the ends together.) Drape the earmuffs across the back/top of the bottle. Secure with craft glue.

Attach the hat to the bottle by running a bit of glue around the inside of the hole and then place the hat over the top of the lid. Decorate the hat with a pipe cleaner.

Draw a face using a black marking pen or black paint. Draw buttons under the scarf, or glue on black felt circles.

Tootsie Pop Christmas Bouquet

Posted by: Jimmy In: Holiday Crafts

Attach the peppermint candies to the tootsie pop by wrapping wire around one end of the candy wrappers. (Pull tight using needlenose pliers.)

Coil each strip of chenille tightly, leaving the bottom half straight. Hold tightly against the peppermint candies and wrap the straight end around and around the tootsie pop stick. As you wrap each chenille, try to fill in the spaces, so the tootsie pop stick doesn’t show through.

You can make 10-15 of these blossoms and stick the ends into a styrofoam ball, inserted into a clay pot or include them in a Christmas gift basket.

Styrofoam Ball Christmas Ornaments

Posted by: Jimmy In: Holiday Crafts

Take a large pen and poke a hole all the way through the center of the ball. Secure the ribbon with dressmaker pins at one end and basically just wrap the ribbon around the ball through the hole. At each end of the hole, secure the ribbon with a pin. Then after you cover the whole ball, push some pretty cording through the hole and tie a knot at the bottom and make a bow or something like that at the top for a loop to hang on tree.

Candy Wreath

Posted by: Jimmy In: Holiday Crafts

Cut pieces of curling ribbon into approximately 12″ pieces.

Tie a piece to a wire ring or wreath form. Any size can be used, but you may need more candy for larger rings.

Make a loop on one side of curling ribbon close to ring, as if tying a bow.

Slip in the cellophane end of a piece of candy and pull tight. Do same on other side of curling ribbon.

Curl ends of ribbon with scissors.

Continue all the way around, pushing candy together and leaving a space for the bow at the top.

Snowmen Candles

Posted by: Jimmy In: Holiday Crafts

Paint the round candleholders white. They may take 2 to 3 coats each. Let dry between coats.

Using pattern, trace and cut out 3 hats from Fun Foam.

Glue the two end edges together overlapping one over the other, holding them together with clothespins until dry.

Glue the top of the hat on top of the larger end of the hat. Let dry.

Insert the hat into the brim and put a line of glue along the under side of hat, gluing the hat in place. Let dry.

Using the dimensional paint, paint a zigzag pattern making a band around the hat above the brim. Place the star in the center of the band. Let dry.

Looking at the photo for placement, glue the eyes onto the snowmen’s heads. Let dry.

Using the orange dimensional paint, squeeze out the paint to form the nose being careful not to make the point too high as the paint might lean over and make a crooked nose.

Let this dry completely before using candleholders as the paint is thick and needs extra time to dry.

Using the black dimensional paint, make small dots to form the mouths. Let dry.

Place a tea light candle into each candleholder. Top with the hat for decoration while not in use.

Easter Tree

Posted by: Jimmy In: Holiday Crafts

Mix plaster as directed on package, and pour into plastic peanut butter jar, up to where the rim begins.

Place tree piece into the wet plaster filled jar. The plaster should be thick enough to hold the tree piece upright and centered. Set aside to harden.

Cut the spoon handles off from the spoons.

Drill a small hole into the uncut end of the spoon.

Decorate each spoon using paint markers. Let dry.

Use a paint marker to decorate the peanut butter jar. Let dry.

Tie a large bow around the rim of the peanut butter jar.

Thread wire/ribbon/raffia through the holes in each plastic spoon egg to make hangers.

Hang the plastic spoon eggs from branches of your Easter tree.

Tuck a bunch of Easter grass into the jar around the base of your Easter tree.

Beanie Baby Sleeping Bag

Posted by: Jimmy In: Kid Crafts

For pillow, roll batting so it looks like a sausage. Place batting across wrong side of fabric, approximately 4-5″ from narrow edge. Fold fabric down to cover batting. Glue along sides and across fabric to secure. Secure with clothespins until dry. Hint: Place clear plastic wrap between clothespin and whatever you’re gluing. When project is finished, remove the clothespins easily and the plastic wrap just peels off.

Fold up opposite end of fabric to form the “bag”. Glue edges together. Glue middle of ribbon to middle of back of bag. Now you can roll up the sleeping bag and tie it with the ribbon when your Beanie is awake!

Dinosaur Eggs

Posted by: Jimmy In: Kid Crafts

Make Dough. Mix flour, coffee grounds, salt and sand. Gradually stir in only enough water until mixture holds together.

Do not over wet! Dough that is too wet takes longer to dry!

Mold handfuls of dough around small plastic dinosaurs (or other small plastic toys).

Allow up to a week to air dry! Plan your party fun accordingly, make these well ahead of time.

Use for party favors, as kids party game (hide and seek with the eggs) then let children smash open with a hammer or rock. They’ll love them!
