Sewing Machine -Using a sewing machine will be a great advantage when making these sachets. However, you will be able to make them using a needle and thread or fusible web when binding them together.
1. Fold the lace square in half and cut it. Fold each half in half again and cut them. You will use only 3 of the 4 pieces.
2. Fold each lace section in half, making a rectangle shape and iron it. Sew one short side and one long side. With one side folded over, sewing the others should make a tube shape with the top open. If you don’t have a sewing machine, you may stitch the sides by hand or insert fusible web and iron them together.
3. Fold the lace tubes inside out, so the seam is on the inside. Stuff each one with equal amounts of lavender and rose petals until they are plump. Be sure to scent your contents first by using a drop of fragrance oil. This works best if you mix the lavender, unscented potpourri, dried rose buds or rose petals in a bowl after you have scented it.
4. Turn the top section in to create a finished edge. If you are fusing it : Insert a small piece of fusible web and apply a hot iron to seal the end. Or hand sew it closed.
5. Find the center of the ribbon and place it under one of the small pillow shaped sachets. Stack the other two on top of it and tie the ribbon around all three. Knot the ribbon on top and tie a bow. Trim the ends of the ribbon in a V shape.
Glue the 1 inch pom pom on top of the 2 inch pompom with tacky glue.
Cut a 3/4 inch long by 1/2 inch wide diamond shape out of the orange felt.
Fold the felt in half and glue it as a beak to the small pom pom.
Glue the two eyes above the beak on the top pompom.
First, you need to determine a theme for the box, then cut pictures, words or designs from the magazines to fit the theme. Glue the pictures to the box, making sure that they overlap so that none of the cardboard is visible. The more cutouts the better. Let dry, then spray lacquer or brush Modge Podge to coat four to six times. Allow adequate time for each layer to dry. When finished, line the box with matching tissue paper and fill with cookies, candy or treats.
Cut the egg carton into separate cups, leaving some of the middle “pop-up” sections. Cut the main cups into the pointed shape of the tulip petals. With the point of the scissors or a sharp pencil, poke a hole in the bottom of each cup. Paint and decorate each cup however you like.
Cut the little center “pop-up” sections between the egg cups into small pointed shapes that will go beneath the tulip cups. Poke a hole in the center of each and paint green.
When the pieces are dry, poke a piece of green chenille through the holes. Tie a loop on the end in the cup so it can’t pull back out, and add a dab of glue between the two sections. Shape the chenille into leaf shapes and leave a few inches at the bottom for the stem.
You can stick the stems of several flowers into some clay or floral foam in the bottom of a pot. Or just tie together and wrap with pretty paper and a ribbon to give to mom!
Sand the surface of the bottle, spray can lid and tub lid. This will allow the acrylic paint to adhere to the surface.
Paint the spray can lid and tub lid black. Paint the bottle white. Allow to dry.
Cover the top and sides of the spray can lid and the top of the tub lid with black felt. Since you’ve painted them black, you don’t need to be too precise with the felt. Center, and glue the spray can lid to the tub lid. You now have your snowman’s hat. When the glue has dried, turn the hat over and cut a small hole in the bottom with an exacto knife. Make the hole a little smaller than the circumference of the top of the hat.
Fill the bottle about halfway with pebbles, sand or dirt. This will help keep your snowman from falling over.
Cut a strip of red felt about 2 feet long and 1″ - 1 1/2″ wide. (If your felt came in 12″ squares, just cut two strips and glue the ends together. Tie this around the bottle, about 3-4″ down from the top. Secure with a dab of glue.
Make earmuffs using 3 pipe cleaners. Two of them will be coiled to make the actual “muffs”. The third will be the band attaching them. (Attach the pipe cleaners by twisting the ends together.) Drape the earmuffs across the back/top of the bottle. Secure with craft glue.
Attach the hat to the bottle by running a bit of glue around the inside of the hole and then place the hat over the top of the lid. Decorate the hat with a pipe cleaner.
Draw a face using a black marking pen or black paint. Draw buttons under the scarf, or glue on black felt circles.
Attach the peppermint candies to the tootsie pop by wrapping wire around one end of the candy wrappers. (Pull tight using needlenose pliers.)
Coil each strip of chenille tightly, leaving the bottom half straight. Hold tightly against the peppermint candies and wrap the straight end around and around the tootsie pop stick. As you wrap each chenille, try to fill in the spaces, so the tootsie pop stick doesn’t show through.
You can make 10-15 of these blossoms and stick the ends into a styrofoam ball, inserted into a clay pot or include them in a Christmas gift basket.
Take a large pen and poke a hole all the way through the center of the ball. Secure the ribbon with dressmaker pins at one end and basically just wrap the ribbon around the ball through the hole. At each end of the hole, secure the ribbon with a pin. Then after you cover the whole ball, push some pretty cording through the hole and tie a knot at the bottom and make a bow or something like that at the top for a loop to hang on tree.
Spray the large shell with glue and drop the glitter on and you can paint a design on if you wish.
Glue on the wooden head, paint on eyes and mouth.
Glue on the very small shells (hands) glue on the lace for a hat, add on hair if you wish.
On the back add on the ribbon (to hang it on a tree, etc.) and glue in a music box.
Cut pieces of curling ribbon into approximately 12″ pieces.
Tie a piece to a wire ring or wreath form. Any size can be used, but you may need more candy for larger rings.
Make a loop on one side of curling ribbon close to ring, as if tying a bow.
Slip in the cellophane end of a piece of candy and pull tight. Do same on other side of curling ribbon.
Curl ends of ribbon with scissors.
Continue all the way around, pushing candy together and leaving a space for the bow at the top.
